Apple-Cranberry Crisp: Photo and Recipe By: Mysterychef1
September is here and fall is fast approaching. With fall
almost here the foods we prepare become more comfort food for those cooler
mornings, evenings and shorter days.
September is National______________ Month.
Biscuit… "Biscuits are a common feature of Southern U.S. cuisine and
are often
made
with buttermilk. They are traditionally served as a side dish with a
meal.
As a breakfast item they are often eaten with butter and a sweet
condiment.
With other meals they are usually eaten with butter or gravy
instead
of sweet condiments. However, biscuits and gravy (biscuits
covered
in country gravy) are usually served for breakfast, sometimes
as
the main course."
Honey… When bees visit mostly one
kind of flower as they gather nectar, the honey they produce has a unique
taste, aroma and color from that particular flower. Other honeys are delicious
blends of floral sources (look for Mixed Flower, Polyfloral, and Wildflower).
So, during national honey month we are encouraged to taste and enjoy all the
flavors of honey!
Potato… "Potatoes are prepared
in many ways: skin-on or peeled, whole or cut up, with seasonings or without.
The only requirement involves cooking to break down the starch. Most potato
dishes are served hot, but some are first cooked then served cold, notably
potato salad and potato chips/crisps.”
Apple… “Originally founded in 1904 as
National Apple Week, it was expanded in 1996 to a three-month promotional
window from September through November."
