Food Fact Friday: Bananas Are Our Friends

Happy Friday All,

I know it has been a while since I brought you some Facts about Food, but I am back and ready to inform and hopefully entertain you with some interesting stuff. So, here we go;

A few FACTS about our lovely fruit the Banana. What do ya know, it isn’t a fruit at all, the banana is actually a Berry. According to the book A History of Food, written by Maguelonne Toussaint-Samat the banana tree is a giant herb, which makes the banana a berry… Go figure…

Here is one more little tid-bit about our little yellow friend: the Banana is one of the healthiest foods in the world. The banana contains B6, fiber, and potassium, and according to the FDA eating bananas can lower your risk heart attacks, strokes, and decreases your risk of getting cancer.

Sounds to me like eating some bananas is just what the Doctor ordered.

Have a great Friday and remember: B6 helps with your metabolism, fiber helps keep you regular, and potassium help maintain fluid balance in the body, so it is very beneficial to eat bananas a few times a week.

Until next time,
