Food Fact Friday

Hi All,

Well today is food fact Friday again. I think since I haven't done 1 in a while, I will write about more than 1.

The first topic for today is sugary drinks and your health.

Did you know?
The high intake of these sugar-sweetened drinks has been a driving force behind the high incidence of obesity among our children. Did you know that one 12-ounce can of soda has 10 teaspoons of sugar? I'm sure that none of you would knowingly give that much sugar to your kids with their meals or snacks.

Did you know?
Soda drinkers are also more likely to have a lower intake of important nutrients, such as vitamin C, vitamin A, folate, magnesium, and calcium. The decrease in calcium can result in reduced bone mass, which can contribute to broken bones in children and can possibly lead to osteoporosis later in life.

What should the experts say we should have our kids drink?

The best information I can find is water or milk. I know.... I know.... I'm not a milk drinker either, but I am a water drinker, and shame on me o_O I am a soda drinker. I do drink milk in my cereal or when I add chocolate syrup to it, Does that count? I think it does.

The 2nd topic for today is"Adult Drinks":

Did you know?

Studies show that three beers a day may control your cholesterol levels. It seems to cause an increase in the good cholesterol (HDL), however, so does moderate exercise in the same study.

An ounce and a half of 80 proof whiskey, a 5 ounce glass of wine and a 12 ounces can of beer all have the same amount of alcohol.

Well that is all for this time. Have a safe and wonderful weekend..
Until next time,
