Good
afternoon to all my fellow food lovers. How is everyone out in blogger-land? As
we all know, summer is fast on its way out, and fall is rapidly approaching. Even
though fall is my favorite time of the year, I will miss all my fresh fruits
and vegetables that summer has to offer.
I
have to be careful though with all the fruits, because I am a type 2 diabetic. Finding
out I was diabetic scared me, but with the right foods, exercise, and
medication I seem to be doing better. I still need to lose weight though, that
is the hardest part, because I am a food lover.
So,
what is type 2 diabetes? My doctor explained to me it is: noninsulin-dependent
diabetes which most people over the age of 30 seem to develop if they are going
to get it (adult-onset). With this type, the pancreas continues to produce
insulin but the cells are resistant to its actions. Some of the symptoms are: Frequent Urination, Extreme Thirst, Extreme
hunger or fatigue, Dry itchy skin, Blurred Vision, Tingling in feet or loss of
feeling in the feet, and Sores that heal slowly.
Some
of the complications of diabetes are: High
Blood Pressure, Heart Disease, Kidney Disease, Eye Problems, and Risk of losing
limbs due to poor circulation. Yes,
this all sounds scary, but with the right doctor and following his or her treatments/recommendations,
it CAN be kept under control.
Of
course this has been my experience. I am not a doctor or expert by no means, I
just know what has helped me in my quest to become healthier. There are some
wonderful websites that are dedicated to the subject of diabetes, check them
out.
