I am sorry about TID-BIT TUESDAY, but power was out in the complex I live in for 5 hours yesterday and internet didn't come back up until late, so I will be posting TID-BIT TUESDAY and WISDOM WEDNESDAY here together. I promise I'm not getting lazy, sometimes things happen out of our control...Moving on...
Today's Tid-Bit Tuesday blog is about more Food Timeline:
1) Recipes for apple pie (along with apples!) were brought to America by early European settlers. These recipes date back to Medieval times. This 14th century English book offers For to Make Tartys in Applis.
2) Food historians tell us sauces made with apples and related recipes [stewed apples, apple pudding] were made by medieval European cooks. These sauces could be made from tart to sweet and were served as accompaniments to a variety of foods. In early times, they were called by different names, often with regards to its use as sauce for meat. The Oxford English Dictionary traces the first use of the word applesause in print to Eliza Smith's Compleat Housewife, 9th edition, [London:1739]. Many 18th century British and American cookbooks contain recipes for applesause, confirming its popularity.

The blog for WISDOM WEDNESDAY is: Smart Carbs.
1) Carbs may be the foe of fad diets, but they’re vital for boosting energy and mood. They are the body's preferred source of fuel, plus they raise levels of the feel-good chemical, serotonin. The key is to avoid sweets, which cause blood sugar to spike and plummet, making you feel tired and moody. Instead, pick whole grains like whole-wheat bread, brown rice, and cereal. Your body absorbs whole grains more slowly, keeping your blood sugar and energy levels stable.
2) Basically smart carbs are complex carbohydrates. You can have carbs, as long as you choose them carefully; that is why they are called smart carbs! It’s all about balance. The body’s muscles need smart carbs as fuel and so does the brain.
FRUITS & VEGETABLES, BEANS, SEEDS, NUTS, and WHOLE GRAINS.
